There wasn’t a character that was completely explained, throughout the book we’ll learn more about the characters but we can tell a few things such as Miss Brent who is riding on the 3rd class carriage is not as rich as someone like Dr Armstrong who is driving fancy cars. He also had an interaction with an old man on the train saying that his judgement day is coming which is foreshadowing.Īnalysis: In chapter 1 we’re introduced to the different characters who are involved in this story. He is going to lie and say he is from South Africa because nobody has any association with South Africa. Blore is headed to Soldier Island and has a list of everyone that is going there with him. VII – Tony Marston who is from England was driving to Soldier Island and was invited by the Owens. He also is headed towards Soldier Island, he thinks he was invited because the husband is worried about the wife’s health and she is to stubborn to go to the doctor. Armstrong was introduced and talked about how he became successful of having a few rich older woman who recommended him to all their friends. V – General Mccarthur is on a train to Exeter which is where he’ll get on another train to Soldier Island and was invited by a fellow Owen saying one or two of his old cronies are coming also. To Soldier Island for the summer and was told the person and Brent met at the Belhaven Guest House but cannot remember the name of who it was. IV – Miss Emily Brent is introduced and is an older lady at 65, who rode 3rd class carriage and was annoyed with how the young generation is changing to things such as half naked tanning. In return Lombard has to go to Soldier Island for no longer than a week and will receive instruction on what his job is there. III – Phillip Lombard is being hired by a mysterious boss who sent Isaac Morris to hire him for 100 Guineas. You also hear about Claythorne’s ex lover Hugo, who she doesn’t like to think about because he said he loved her and is no longer in her life. II – Vera Claythorne is introduced and is talking about how she is fortunate to have received the job offer from Nancy Owen who also paid for her expenses to go to Soldier Island. Finally a letter that he received inviting him to the island from Constance Culmington is described but has illegible hand writing so he could not fully read it and only gather parts. Justice wargrave on some sort of transportation such as a plane or boat, heading towards Soldier Island, and talks about the people who have bought and sold the Island.
